Check what you downloaded

KazaVPN Linux releases are signed. Use the two commands below to check the release signature and compare your downloaded package with its published checksum.

Start on the download page

Take the package for your machine from there. You also need the checksum file that release published, its signature, and our release key. Download our release key from this guide before checking the files.

Get the release key

Find the checksum file and its signature alongside the package in the same release.

Check the signature, then the file

Run both commands in the folder where you downloaded the files. The first checks the checksum file against the release key you downloaded from this guide. The second compares your package with that checksum file and prints its name with OK if it matches.

Both checks must pass before you install the package. A matching checksum alone does not establish who published the list. A valid signature alone does not show that your package matches the list.

ssh-keygen -Y verify -f kazavpn-release.pub -I release@kazavpn.com \
  -n kazavpn-release -s SHA256SUMS.sig < SHA256SUMS
sha256sum --ignore-missing -c SHA256SUMS

Install it

Keep only the KazaVPN packages you want to install in the download folder: the desktop app and the command line for your computer. Run the command below that fits your system to install both with what they need. Then sign in, choose a place, and connect.

.deb

sudo apt install ./kaza*_$(dpkg --print-architecture).deb

.rpm

sudo dnf install ./kaza-*.rpm ./kazavpn-*.rpm

If a check does not pass

Do not install the file. Download it again, on another network if you have one, and run both commands once more. If it fails a second time, write to us before you do anything else, and say which of the two failed.
